“Your home, far away from home”
This slogan is key within I*ESN Tilburg. As an association we try to make foreign students feel like they’re at home. In my opinion, this phrase could also be applicable on Dutch students like myself: the international atmosphere of I*ESN sometimes makes me forget that I’m in a small Dutch city!
After returning from my exchange in Germany, I was looking for a somewhat same experience at my home university. I came in contact with I*ESN Tilburg and without hesitation I applied for being a mentor. Now, 3 semesters later, I can say that joining I*ESN was one of the best decisions of my life!
In the beginning, I didn’t really know what to expect and I was not sure if it could ever come close to what I had experienced in Germany. After all, I was living in my own country… I also didn’t know how the incoming students would see the Dutch students within the association. Luckily, I now can say that internationals really embrace us within their little international community. I met some of my best friends within I*ESN!
I*ESN is the best way to experience the international environment you might have experienced on your own exchange, but it’s also a great way to prepare yourself for an exchange or just for meeting people in general, Dutch and international. The weekly dinners are an amazing way to get to know new people and “prepare” (read: pre-drink) yourself for the parties in our own bar: Carpe Noctem. I*ESN parties are very special and often result in unforgettable nights and great stories. It’d be amazing to see you in Carpe Noctem and experience it for yourself!
